Top 5 Benefits of Organic Cotton

Cotton is one of the most commonly used fabrics in clothing today.  Unfortunately regular cotton is oftentimes processed using various chemicals, toxic dyes, and unsafe practices which can be damaging to our well being. There are numerous reasons why organic cotton is a better alternative, but here are what I believe are the top five:

1.  Organic cotton comes from cotton crops that do not use fertilizers, pesticides, or other toxic chemicals. Farmers who grow cotton organically rely on approved organic cotton farming methods, which results into a sustainable environment as it helps maintain soil fertility and quality.  Harvests produce chemical free cotton.

2.  Organic clothing products are safer and manufacturers have to adhere to more rigid manufacturing standards.

3.  Those who suffer from allergies and skin concerns may find that organic cotton, not only feels better on the skin, but also reduces irritations, making it a much more hypoallergenic fabric to wear.

4.  Cotton is one of the most common genetically modified crops in the world. Both conventional cotton and GMO cotton make up the biggest chunk of cotton production.  Regular and GMO cotton use some of the world's most dangerous insecticides.

5.  Organic cotton is superior to regular or GMO cotton.  It's strong and resilient.  Clothes look better and last longer.  When you buy better quality, you buy less over the long run.

Here at Asti Clothing we source our products from suppliers that are GOTS certified. The Global Organic Textile Standard is a leading textile processing standard for organic fibers that ensures that specific standards and requirements are adhered to throughout the entire textile supply chain.
